In ‘Instructions from the Great Beyond,' Melis re-edits the official video recordings of the 8th Congress of the Communist Party in Cuba giving a different interpretation to it. Based on the still omnipresence of the former leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro in those political meetings, the artist re construct the video extracts where all the parts remain in a passive attitude. The disturbing silence gives the impression of a tense atmosphere where people are endlessly waiting for someone’s orders.
